Other Food Standards
It is a legal requirement that food business operators implement a food safety management system based on HACCP principles. Further details of this requirement can be found in The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations (2013).
Global QA Consultants has a team of qualified consultants whom have the knowledge and experience of establishing and implementing HACCP into a wide range of food businesses.
HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) is a food safety management system that assesses risks against microbiological, physical and chemical threats.
A HACCP management system is not only a legal requirement, but if established and implemented correctly can be extremely beneficial for the following reasons: It promotes product safety – individuals are made aware of the HACCP and this prompts them to bare in mind the importance of food safety during operations. It is built on the Codex principles which provide you with a logical and consistent system. Through review and analysis, risks and weaknesses are identified, reviewed and addressed. The HACCP management system itself is recognised globally and likely to be something that your existing and prospective clients are interested in. If you are looking to obtain certification to a food standard, e.g. BRC it is a fundamental requirement.
It can reduce costs, although this benefit is not measurable from a ROI perspective, the idea of HACCP should ensure that you get it right first time, preventing any significant food safety issues in the future.
SALSA is a food-safety standard designed and written by experienced food safety experts to reflect both the legal requirements of producers and the enhanced expectations of ‘best practice’ of professional food buyers.
Global QA Consultants have a team of highly qualified consultants with knowledge and experience of establishing and implementing SALSA certification to suppliers who are able to demonstrate to an auditor that they are able to produce safe and legal food and are committed to continually meeting the requirements of the SALSA standard.
SALSA’s main objective is to provide affordable food safety assurance certification and support for small and micro businesses in the United Kingdom.
WHO NEEDS SALSA
A great many of the UK’s major buyers including supermarkets, food service, catering suppliers, local authorities and health trusts see local sourcing as a major objective with increasing demand for locally or regionally sourced products a growing priority within the food industry.
SALSA developed specifically for buyers and smaller food producers delivers a robust and effective food safety certification scheme which is more appropriate for smaller food producers and processors than the BRC Global Standard.
The SALSA scheme exists above all else, to encourage and assist small and micro businesses to implement practices and controls that produce food that is consistently safe.

ISO 22000 FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
ISO 22000 food safety management systems is an international standard which specifies the requirements for a food safety management system. involving interactive communication, system management, prerequisite programmes and HACCP principles.
ISO 22000 shares a similar format to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 making it a good option for the development of an integrated risk based management system. It helps you to manage food safety hazards and risks and communicate this publicly giving stakeholders confidence that you are serious about safety. ISO 22000 is recognised accross the global food chain, indeed larger food producers in particular may well favour those with ISO 22000. The majority of food companies have to meet the requirements of many standards and schemes. ISO 22000 provides a platform to harmonise all HACCP based standards.
ISO 22000 is a standard that is relevant to all parts of the food supply chain regardless of size and is relavent to organisations who need to show their compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory food safety requirements in addition to adherence to their own stated food safety policy.
Organisations can also opt to gain certification to FSSC 22000, which is the first global food safety standard specifically targeted at the food manufacturing sector.
We are familiar with the IFS suite of Standards International Featured Standards (IFS) comprises of eight different food & non-food standards.
The IFS Food Standard is rapidly becoming a fundamental requirement of many leading European retailers – for more information please contact us direct.
