HACCP

It is a legal requirement that food businesses have a food safety management system based on HACCP principles. You can find further details on HACCP in The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations (2013).

Global QA Consultants are a team of consultants who have experience implementing HACCP in a wide range of food businesses.

HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) is a food safety management system that assesses risks against hazards.

A HACCP management system is a legal requirement but can also be extremely beneficial for the following reasons:

  • It promotes product safety – individuals are made aware of the HACCP, which prompts them to consider the importance of food safety during operations.
  • Codex principles are the base of HACCP and provide you with a logical and consistent system.
  • Through review and analysis, risks and weaknesses are identified, reviewed, and addressed.
  • HACCP is recognised globally and likely to be something your existing and prospective clients are interested in.
  • It is a fundamental requirement if you are looking to obtain certification to a food standard, e.g., BRC.
  • It can reduce costs, although this benefit is not measurable from an ROI perspective. The idea of HACCP should ensure that you get it right the first time, preventing any significant food safety issues in the future.

SALSA

SALSA is a standard written by food safety experts to reflect producers’ legal requirements and the enhanced expectations of professional food buyers’ ‘best practice.’

Global QA Consultants are a team of highly qualified consultants with knowledge and experience of SALSA with companies who can demonstrate to an auditor that they produce safe and legal food and are committed to continually meeting the requirements of the SALSA standard.

SALSA provides affordable food safety assurance certification and support for small and micro businesses in the United Kingdom.

WHO NEEDS SALSA

Many UK’s major buyers, including supermarkets, food services, catering suppliers, local authorities, and health trusts, see local sourcing as a major objective. As a result, increasing demand for locally or regionally sourced products is a growing priority within the food industry.

SALSA, developed specifically for buyers and smaller food producers, delivers a robust and effective food safety certification scheme more appropriate for smaller food producers and processors than the BRC Global Standard.

ABOVE ALL ELSE, the SALSA scheme encourages small businesses to implement practices and controls that produce consistently safe food.

ISO 22000 FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

ISO 22000 is an international standard that specifies the requirements for a food safety management system.

ISO 22000 is on Annex SL, making it a good option for developing an integrated management system. In addition, it helps manage food safety hazards, giving stakeholders confidence that you are serious about safety. In particular, ISO 22000 is aimed at larger food producers, and many favor those with the Standard. The Standard provides a platform to harmonise all HACCP-based standards.

The standard is relevant to all parts of the food supply chain regardless of size. It is relevant to organisations who need to show their compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory food safety requirements in addition to adherence to their own stated food safety policy.

Organisations can also opt to gain certification to FSSC 22000, which is the first global food safety standard specifically targeted at the food manufacturing sector.
