HACCP

It is a legal requirement that food business operators implement a food safety management system based on HACCP principles. Further details of this requirement can be found in The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations (2013).

ISO 22000 FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

ISO 22000 food safety management systems is an international standard which specifies the requirements for a food safety management system. involving interactive communication, system management, prerequisite programmes and HACCP principles.

ISO 22000 shares a similar format to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 making it a good option for the development of an integrated risk based management system. It helps you to manage food safety hazards and risks and communicate this publicly giving stakeholders confidence that you are serious about safety. ISO 22000 is recognised accross the global food chain, indeed larger food producers in particular may well favour those with ISO 22000. The majority of food companies have to meet the requirements of many standards and schemes. ISO 22000 provides a platform to harmonise all HACCP based standards.

ISO 22000 is a standard that is relevant to all parts of the food supply chain regardless of size and is relavent to organisations who need to show their compliance with all relevant statutory and regulatory food safety requirements in addition to adherence to their own stated food safety policy.

Organisations can also opt to gain certification to FSSC 22000, which is the first global food safety standard specifically targeted at the food manufacturing sector.
